Meet the Team

Shannon Kennedy, DVM

Veterinarian, Owner

Meet Dr. Shannon Kennedy, the heart and driving force behind Floral City Animal Clinic since he became its owner in 2011. Born and raised on the beautiful Folly Beach of Charleston, South Carolina, Shannon’s journey in veterinary medicine was initiated at Clemson University where he studied Animal Science and earned a Master’s degree in Animal Physiology. His passion then led him to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where he completed his Doctorate in 2004.

Dr. Kennedy’s love for veterinary medicine was first sparked by food animal and livestock care, thanks to his time at Clemson University. As he dove deeper into the profession, he transitioned towards small animal practice and discovered a love for fostering the bond between humans and their pets.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kennedy has ventured into various facets of the veterinary profession, from exotic animal care to shelter medicine, and cruelty investigation. His accomplishments are reflected in his numerous accolades, including the Large Animal In House Clinic award, Radiology Student of the Year award, and the FVMA Community Service Award. A devoted member of the AVMA and FVMA since 2004, Shannon’s Dr. Kennedy’s primary passion remains enhancing the human-animal bond through his work.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Kennedy is a dedicated family man, happily married to Dr. Ann Toto, his partner at Floral City Animal Clinic. Their shared passion for veterinary medicine is the cornerstone of the clinic’s success. Dr. Kennedy is the proud father of two daughters, Caroline and Emmie. Away from veterinary medicine and family life, Dr. Kennedy is an active Jiu Jitsu practitioner with a purple belt ranking and an ardent auto racing enthusiast, with the title of 2017 Citrus County Speedway Street Stock Champion and Driver of the Year to his name.
